Named - for the Alaudidae bird family.

Companion discovered 2007 Jul 26 by P. Rojo and J. L. Margot using adaptive optics telescope observations from Very Large Telescope, ESO, Cerro Paranal, Chile. Announced 2007 Aug 02 [R07c]. Provisional designation S/2007 (702) 1. Permanent designation I Pichi unem, assigned 2011 Oct 12; named for the Mapudungun words for "little bird" [MPC76674].
