Primary discovered 1985 Feb 12 from Palomar Observatory, California, USA by C. S. Shoemaker and E. M. Shoemaker. Alternate designation(s): 1985 CT, 1978 EC6, 1992 BM1. Linked to prediscovery observations from 1950 Mar 17. Permanent number assigned 1994 Sep 19.

Named 1998 Apr 11 for Florence Bascom (1862-1945) [MPC31610].

Companion discovered 2005 Dec 29 by D. Higgins, P. Pravec, P. Kusnirak, L. Sarounova, S. Gajdos, A. Galad, and J. Vilagi using lightcurve observations from Ondrejov Observatory, Czech Republic; Modra Observatory, Slovakia. Announced 2006 Feb 06 [H06c].
