The following counts of geysers are based primarily on T. Scott Bryan's The Geysers of Yellowstone, revised third edition, supplemented by other sources some of which are summarized below. Note that these figures are approximate. Counts here are based on these delineations:
It may be noted that nearly all geyser extinctions have resulted from geothermal energy extraction (notable exceptions include those buried by a landslide in Dolina Geizerov, Russia, in 2007). Several listed geyser locations are currently under threat from planned geothermal projects.
